It helps you better understand your target audience by giving you insight into what they\u2019re actually searching for. If nobody is searching for what you\u2019re writing about, then your site won\u2019t receive any traffic form Google. This is where keyword research comes into play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-keywords\"><strong>What Are Keywords?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The words and phrases that people type into search engines. Keyword research is the process of finding and analyzing search terms that people enter into search engines with the goal of using that data for a specific purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-keyword-research-helps-you-answer-questions-like\"><strong>Keyword Research Helps You Answer Questions Like:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What are people searching for?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How many people are searching for it?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What format do they want to receive information in?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How difficult will it be to rank for that search query?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In the field of keyword research there are a few different types of search terms. These are often referred to by different names, but they all mean the same thing. Let\u2019s call them head terms, body keywords, and long tail keywords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-head-terms\"># <strong>What Are Head Terms?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Head Terms (or fat head) are usually single-word keywords with lots of search volume and competition (e.g. marketing, insurance).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-search-volume\"># <strong>What is Search Volume?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of times a particular keyword is entered into a search engine per month. This phrase comes up a lot in the SEO space, especially when it comes to keyword research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-body-keywords\"># <strong>What are Body Keywords?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Chunky middle (or Body Keywords) are 2-3 word phrase with decent search volume, but slightly more specific than head terms and with slightly less competition (e.g. marketing automation, car insurance).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-long-tail-keywords\"># <strong>What are Long Tail Keywords?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Long tail keywords are more specific phrases that don\u2019t get as much search volume but tend to less competitive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Long tail keywords make up the majority of searches online, but long tail doesn\u2019t simply mean the keyword is very long. Your keyword strategy should contain a mix of Long tail and Body keywords guided by Head terms.
